Legacy Series - The Gift of Love (#LoveIsChallenge)

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

Beloved, we are in a season of Love. Lately, the Lord has been speaking to me about His love. This love continues to be an ongoing theme in my life. Recently, I participated in a 15-day online training on God's love facilitated by Pastor Donnell and Pastor Angel Duncan of The Body Church in Atlanta, GA. This teaching brought new revelation about what God’s love truly means to me.

When we read the Bible, we know and understand that wherever we see God's possession indicated, for example, “The Love of God or God's love,” it means that God owns whatever is mentioned. It's similar to me stating, “Simone's car or the car of Simone.” The car is mine. I own it (with no car payments lol, but that's a story for another day!)

In the same vein, the love of God is God's love. GOD OWNS IT! And we know that when God owns something, because we are his sons and daughters; God gifts us what belongs to him. In much the same way, our earthly parents give us both tangible and intangible gifts (See blog post from August 2020 entitled, “Legacy Series – Generational Gifts.)

To further illustrate this point, think back to the days Pre-COVID-19 when a child would say to her friend, "Come over to my house…" Although the child in this example has not bought a house and the parents have probably never stated, “I give you this house,” the child KNOWS that the house belongs to her! In the same way, this love that God possesses is surely our love since we were bought and brought into His sonship by the blood of Jesus Christ. And as joint heirs with Christ, if we could only fathom the love gift that we are carrying, we would be unstoppable.

Scriptural Reference:

1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 (NTL)

4. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud

5. or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.

6. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

7. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

8. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!”

PKs and Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, note that the verses above describe God’s perfect love. It is a love that he has reserved for and gifted to us. This gospel of God’s transforming love is the good news that we MUST SHARE with others. It is so special that we do not have to worry about the depletion of love’s supply when we share it with others. This love is not like a tangible gift. Sharing it does not mean that there will be less of it to keep. Remember that God’s love is in never-ending supply and exponentially multiplies when we sow it into the lives others.

I challenge you this month to help change the narrative. In a world of so much backbiting and hatred, make a concerted and conscious effort to show love. One way you can do this is by using your social media platforms. I am currently participating in a 90-day #LoveIsChallenge on Facebook spearheaded by Pastors Donnell and Angel. Each day a few of us post the biblical meaning of love using the hashtag #LoveIsChallenge. Feel free to explore the hashtag and come join us. Today is day 9 of 90. Let us put a demand on God's love and #SHARE it with the world. Now moreso than ever, people are open to listen. Our hearts are ready.
